March Letter From Hank

March Letter From Hank

Hello From Hank!

Happy spring to you! In previous newsletters, I’ve discussed the work we are doing with our soils in the vineyard. One of the problems we have faced is how to deliver some of the things that we want to add to the soil. We have looked at many pieces of equipment to place compost mixed with other nutrients directly under the vines. At last our search has come to an end. This week we have received delivery on a gravity flow side gate fertilizer spreader. Visualize a steel box with a slanted floor delivering product to a side door with a chute. The capacity of this new tool is equivalent of about 250 bushels. A chute is attached to the exit point below the door and can be adjusted to place a continuous line of compost and fertilizer exactly where we want it, the bare spot directly under the canopy. We expect to start this process within the next couple of weeks.

What preceded the decision to buy this piece of equipment grew out of extensive analysis of our soil testing. Our new process will allow us to replenish very specifically certain soil components that have been used by the vines. We expect to see some immediate results and continuing improvements as years go by.

Switching subjects to a different part of our business, we are making some small changes to our villas. Every week, I read through a stack of completed questionnaires from our villa guests. What has appeared repeatedly is a request for full-length mirrors in every villa. We have taken the advice of our customer and are in the process of installing full-length mirrors in the villas that do not already have them so that we will have 100% of the Villages equipped.

Another area that has received comment is the lack of shades on the front doors and windows in some villas. I’m happy to say that new shades have been ordered for all but 2 villas and will be installed in the next couple of weeks.

We pay close attention to the comments and suggestions that we receive from our customers. We feel that paying attention to these remarks is one of our best ways to improve service and guest experience.

Every person who makes a suggestion that we end up using gets a call from Jeannine Thomure, our Villas Manager, thanking them for their suggestion and informing them that their suggestion is being implemented.

We encourage our readers of this newsletter to come forth with any suggestions that they may have that they feel will help us provide the best guest experience that we can possibly provide. Please email your suggestions to me at Villas@Chaumette.com.

Wrapping up in event news, I am thrilled to announce that we have finalized our collaboration with the St. Louis Audubon Society to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this organization this year! We will be hosting bird watching events, led by experts from the St. Louis Audubon Society!

These events are early Friday mornings April 24th, May 8th and June 12th, and it may be that we host more in the autumn when the weather cools; (please see details below.) We are delighted to explore and discover the birds on our existing trails on our property, nearly adjacent to the John J. Audubon Trail, and we sure hope you can join us for one of these every special events!

There are many more exciting things happening in April ~ our Annual Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt, we begin serving our Sunday Brunches again thereafter, Chef Adam will be rolling out locally-sourced new spring menus and more ~ the list goes on! We hope that you will join us soon to celebrate all the wonderful things that spring brings!

Cheers to a new season!

Hank
