Here at Chaumette, our diverse Missouri wine portfolio reflects the finest examples in breadth and depth of Midwest wine, capable of competing in the international marketplace. We grow Norton, Missouri’s state grape; Chardonel, a hybrid of Chardonnay; Traminette, similar in style to its parent grape, Gerwurztraminer; Chambourcin and Vignoles – all French-American hybrids. We produce three thousand cases annually of mostly dry wines, as well as some semi-dry and sweet styles including vintage port.

Varietal Wines

  • Norton

    Our 2022 Norton is highlighted with red and black fruits, this wine has flavors of spice, vanilla, chocolate yet is layered with flavors of ripe cherries, strawberries, and currants. Our wine finishes with a restrained oak character with some vanilla and coca for a balanced profile. Pairings include chicken, pork, beef, barbeque,  wild game, sharp and nutty cheeses. 

  • Chambourcin

    This aromatic wine is berry-bright with flavors of dark cherries and strawberries. It is a smooth, medium bodied wine that has a lingering finish and a hint of warm spices. It pairs well with chocolate, mushrooms, burgers, pastas, and red meats.

  • Unoaked Chardonel

    Our Chardonel, awarded 93 points and a gold medal by Tastings, is a white wine fermented in stainless steel, has fruit forward aromas of lemon, green apple, and a touch of honey dew melon. This delicate and lighter style wine is perfect for a warm summer day or pairing with cheese or fish on a cool evening.

  • Shumate Blanc

    Our Shumate Blanc is an off dry white wine. It has a wonderful profile of apple and pear notes along with bright honey and honeycomb. This is not a sweet wine but does lead with nice fruit and ends with a pleasant finish.

  • Oaked Chardonel

    Our 2021 Chardonel is a complex wine showing a bright apple and tropical fruit nose and palate. This wine did see a limited amount of oak to round out the palate with hints of vanilla. This has a nice lingering finish.

  • Semi-Dry Chardonel

    Stainless steel aged, light in body, hints of apricot & tropical fruit.

  • Vignoles

    Our 2021 Vignoles strikes a nice balance between fruit and floral. Ripe pear fruit mingles well with the honeysuckle floral for a great nose and mouth feel. The finish is full and lingering.

  • Traminette

    Vinified, crisp, light and approachable. This white wine has a bouquet of floral and spicy notes, and apricot grapefruit and honey on the palate. Try with spicy, full-flavored foods such as: Indian, Thai, or Mexican fare.

  • Dry Rosé

    Made from the Chambourcin grape, our Rosé was vinified using juice that was briefly in contact with the grapes' dark skins, then pressed and the skins discarded; the juice then underwent a cold fermentation, much like any other white wine. Delicate fruit flavors of cherry and a hint of herbs linger on the nose, and the palate delivers excellent acidity, with fruit forward flavors of cherry and strawberry. Pair with baked fish and fresh herbs or lightly prepared poultry dishes.

  • Shumate Rouge

    Our Shumate Rouge is a medium body with a pervasive tannic presence. It has red currant and oak pervasive throughout the profile, with hints of plum and nutmeg.

Chaumette White Wines

Blends

  • Bouvet Blanc, N.V.

    A lovely, white, semi-sweet wine with pear aromas, peaches and honey on the palate. Serve as an aperitif, with picnic foods, or with light, cream desserts.

  • Huguenot White, N.V.

    A sweet, white wine that has aromas of citrus and honey with a hint of spice and floral notes; the palate exhibits fruit forward flavors and a lingering finish. It is the perfect pairing for a light lunch, a leisurely stroll in the field or on its own.

  • Assemblage, N.V.

    A medium-bodied, off-dry red wine, with aromas of cherry, strawberry, and a touch of black pepper. A truly diverse food pairing wine: try with steak, wild game, poultry and fish. Perfect with light pasta, Tex-Mex and Asian cuisine.

  • Mosaic, N.V.

    A fruit forward and medium-bodied red wine with hints of cherry. Our Mosaic complements a diverse array of foods including roasted or grilled meats and poultry dishes...and it is terrific by itself. Enjoy either chilled or at room temperature.

  • Huguenot Red, N.V.

    Our 2021 Huguenot Red is a fruit forward sweet red wine. Sweet raspberry and strawberry flavors balance well with the acid backbone. The finish of this wine will keep you coming back for more!

  • Anrie

    A full-bodied, abundant in ripe wild berry flavors and aromas with a distinguishing finish. Pairs well with red meats, roasts, wild game and BBQ.

  • Port

    Our Port is a blend of grape varieties selected to contribute desired attributes such as color, body, fruit or backbone to the final wine. Vinted in the classic port style, we stop fermentation by running the fermenting wine into grape Brandy to preserving its natural sugars and is aged 18 months or more resting in oak barrels before it is bottled.
